A historic organization with roots tracing back to the 11th century, the Order of Malta operates in 120 countries and serves people in need in a social, medical, and humanitarian capacity. Among its efforts is disaster risk reduction that focuses on vulnerable populations such as the elderly and disabled. In the recent devastating bushfires in Australia, Order of Malta members in the central and eastern regions of South Australia worked closely with authorities to collect and distribute emergency supplies.
In addition to collecting supplies like fuel and food and disbursing money from its Natural Disaster Fund, the Order of Malta conducted a special fundraising appeal that raised more than $50,000 for food vouchers.
